Children of the Valley

A South African non-profit organisation based in the informal settlement along the mountainside of Western Cape's Franschhoek Valley. We have been committed to improving early childhood care and educational development since 2021.
Our Principles
Investment in ECD is one of the most effective long-term strategies for alleviating poverty and achieving social and economic equality.
Every child deserves a quality early education.
Quality education can only be sustained if ECD centre owners and teachers are paid fairly and centres are financially sustainable.
If we invest in women who have a heart for children and a head for business, then we will improve the quality and sustainability of the sector.
Our Work Matters
COV was created in response to the growing number of underfunded early learning centres in the Langrug informal settlement in the Franschhoek Valley.

These centres are located along the mountainside in often cramped conditions in a crowded community facing seasonal unemployment challenges. Consequently, there is a fluctuating number of children
under the age of six who require care throughout the day.

Insufficient funding, a lack of governmental support and no structured curriculums mean there is often little stimulation with no routine educational programmes or activities in place.
Currently, the project works with two early learning centres, Busy Bees and Siyakhula, which collectively have over 70 children.

All centres overseen by COV are warm, happy places effusing love, care and educational stimulation with committed teachers.
